Our Therapy Team Is Not Only Convenient, Their Results Are Great
We’ve written before about the convenience of having an on-site therapy team. You don’t have to travel to an appointment to receive your therapy. You can receive it all here at John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center whether you’re living in one of our independent living apartments, living in the care center or here for a short time after a hospital visit. But at the end of the day what you really care about is how successfully your therapy team gets you back on your feet and functioning at the highest levels possible. And, our team knocks it out of the park in that respect too.
Our Therapy team at John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center offers speech, occupational and physical therapy. They are trained to address falls and help prevent them. They also receive specialized training in addressing cognitive issues, as well as swallowing therapies. Every patient’s wish is to get better and return to their highest abilities – not return to the hospital. Our therapy team’s success at keeping people from a return visit to the hospital is 33% better than the national and statewide averages.
Overall, our therapy team is better than the national average at getting people successfully back to their prior setting and doing so with less complications along the way. Our average at John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center at successfully returning people to their prior abilities is 59.5%, compared to 49.7% as the national average.
Sometimes, when we are immobilized after a fall and can’t get up and move around as well, we get pressure sores or wounds from not being as active. Not only do our therapists get you back on your feet more successfully, they make sure issues don’t arise from lack of activity. Our short stay residents had 0% of instances of developing pressure sores or had existing ones worsen. This compares to a national average of 2.4% of short term patients who had issues with pressure sores. We also have 0% of our short stay residents have a fall with a major injury during their stay. This compares to a 0.8% national average.
At John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center we also perform better than national averages at infection control during a rehab stay. The national average of people getting an infection during a stay is 6.9%. At John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center it is 5.1%. People are also less likely to have an ER visit during a stay at John Knox Village East & Meyer Care Center. The national average is 1.7 ER visits per 1,000 patients. At Meyer Care Center, it is 0.7 visits per 1,000 patients.
